I agree with you, Dana.

It's one thing for someone "not being cut out for writing". It's another thing to "be a writer" and "not take up particular kind of work".

I once wrote a hub on Why BMR writing is such a loser proposition. I predicted that Google sends out another wave of Panda attacks and BMR is going to bite the dust. Guess What? News flash: BMR is gone ( currently issuing refunds).

That's where @allena's point comes in. Writers can choose what they want to write and what they don't want to. Next up is your point about professionalism, quality of writing, attention to detail, ability to communicate clearly, and to turn in the articles by deadlines.

Not everyone can write. Out of those who write well, not many can be professionally astute.

The 80/20 rule again, eh?

Jon,

I am with you on all of that you said. Marketing -- ah, how can we even survive. Innovate -- to differentiate. Take Action -- magic happens when we do take action, eh?

Great post :)

I love how you said some have done something about their own situations by turning their current situation into a positive one. I think sometimes as individuals we give up, lose hope or over think a minor process. Great post.

I was searching for more blogs to follow when your site came up. I'm a newbie freelancer who has asked myself this very thing. Am I cut out to be a full time freelancer? Do I have what it takes, especially when it comes to the business side? I really don't know at this point. I've had several content mill refusals, but I've had the excellents as well.

I'll definitely be reading more of your posts in the future.

Hi Ashwin,
Content mills aren't the way I go. I've got memberships with a few that allow Canadians but never seem to find the rates high enough to be worth my while. I do know that some writers like them for gap filling work and they can be great for newbies (if you're in one of the "allowed" countries) so I like to share these leads as they come up.

Cheers,
Dana

Dana,

For one, I think text broker(US) doesn't allow anyone from outside the U.S [ I think they allow Canadians?]. Now, Textbroker UK will stick to its territory and still now allow anyone from outside of UK.

Ehow, I remember, allows you to write on their site but not PAY you if you are from elsewhere other than the U.S.

Nutshell, I never bothered with the content mills. But you do have a point, especially if 120 words is all it takes :) Hell, geographic location is now the problem. even if I wanted to give it a try.

My options are limited to Squidoo, Bukisa, and Hub pages, if ever.
